DoodleFriend began as an attempt to replicate Ze Frank’s “The Scribbler”. What emerged was a full-fledged drawing tool that allowed a you to create new and interesting art works by bringing forward a symbiotic relationship between the you and the computer. You would start by drawing some lines, paths for the tool to follow. Then some tweaks to the brush color, stroke thickness, opacity, and “sketchiness” and the computer was off, interpreting the drawn paths. You’d tell the computer to stop, draw some more lines of your own, then let the computer do its job again.
Controls were tweakable in realtime. It was also possible to import images to use as traceable guides. When satisfied with your work, you could export the collaborative drawing as a JPG to share or 24-bit PNG if you wanted to take things further in the raster program of your choosing.
