The idea for the ULTRA 10k a Day Challenge website originated from the Surgeon General’s statement that Americans should walk 10,000 steps a day towards a healthier lifestyle. We launched the site on New Year’s Day 2005 to encourage a new community to emerge, dedicated to promoting that 10k a day goal.
We provided the visitors the ability to track their step count (via a pedometer reading) and see their progress across a span of time. They could even see how they compared to the rest of the community and their private groups of friends. We gave them access to fitness tips from Michelob ULTRA partner Runners’ World Magazine along with a desktop application that would make entering their steps even easier, while giving them daily motivational statements to keep them on track.
