About Mike Creighton

I'm a developer, designer, strategist, and leader who helps organizations navigate the future of AI—by actually building it.

My Story

I started as a self-taught programmer with an art degree, which turned out to be the perfect foundation for a career spent bridging the gap between creative vision and technical reality. Over 20+ years, I've worked across the spectrum of digital creation—from hands-on development to creative direction to business leadership.

Most recently, as Director of AI Research & Development at Instrument, I led a team exploring how AI could enhance human capabilities rather than just automate tasks. We built prototypes that showed how AI could help people learn better, create more freely, and work more effectively. Each experiment taught us something new about the relationship between humans and AI.

What makes me different is that I can both envision solutions and build them. I'm not just a consultant who points at whiteboards or creates PowerPoint decks—I'm a builder who turns ideas into working prototypes. This hands-on approach means I understand the real opportunities and challenges of implementing AI, not just the theory.

My Philosophy

I believe we're at a pivotal moment with AI. The question isn't whether AI will transform how we work—it's whether that transformation will enhance or diminish human potential. I'm firmly in the enhancement camp.

When implemented thoughtfully, AI can give us superpowers. It can amplify our creativity, deepen our understanding, and help us solve problems in new ways. But this only happens when we design AI systems with human needs at the center.

That's why I focus on practical experimentation. Instead of getting lost in theoretical discussions about AI's future, I build prototypes that demonstrate its potential today. These experiments inform how I help organizations implement AI in ways that actually work for real people.

Let’s Connect

I'm always interested in discussing AI, creativity, and the future of human-centered technology.
